Does prayer have the power to heal?
A recent study found that heart patients that were prayed for
by complete strangers did 11 percent better than those who were not.
Neither the patients nor the doctors treating them knew about the prayers,
but those who were prayed for had shorter hospital stays,
a lesser need for pacemakers, and speedier recoveries.

When Love Gives Out

Too often, we lose sight of life's simple pleasures.

Remember, when someone annoys you it takes 42 muscles
in your face to frown,

BUT it only takes 6 muscles to extend your arm and
rat-slap that sucker upside the head!

A certain amount of conflict is a part of life.
But conflict and violence are quite different.

One man tells about living next door to a bully. Last month the neighbor came up to him with hand extended. As he reached to shake hands, his neighbor grabbed him forcefully and threw him over his shoulder. "That's Judo," he said. "Picked it up in Japan."

He went into his garage and came back out and cracked the bully over the head. "That's crowbar," he said. "Picked it up at Sears."

Some conflict is necessary, and many of us will wisely learn how to make conflicts with others both constructive and healthy. We will do well not to avoid daily conflict, but to resolve it quickly. And, of course, that doesn't mean to grab the crowbar, either.

Actually, I understand that the Chinese have a good idea ~
illustrated by a true story:

Two natives of Hong Kong were arguing loudly in the street. An American, who observed the altercation, but could not speak the language, asked an Asian friend what they were arguing about. "They are having a discussion about the ownership of a boat," came the reply.

"They're getting so wrought up, won't they start fighting soon?" the tourist asked.

"No," his friend said. "These men will not start fighting because each one knows the man who strikes the first blow admits his ideas just gave out."

It's true. Those individuals and societies who are quick to violence admit their ideas just gave out. And if they genuinely try to care about people, even their enemies, when they strike the first blow they also admit their love just gave out.

Approach that conflict with a head full of ideas and a heart full of love, and you'll be amazed at how quickly things get settled!

The Visitor

One day, a man went to visit a church. He arrived early, parked his car, and got out. Another car pulled up near him, and the driver told him, " I always park there. You took my place!"

The visitor went inside for Sunday School, found an empty seat, and sat down. A young lady from the church approached him and stated, "That's my seat! You took my place!" The visitor was somewhat distressed by this rude welcome, but said nothing.

After Sunday School, the visitor went into the church sanctuary and sat down. Another member walked up to him and said, "That's where I always sit. You took my place!" The visitor was even more troubled by this treatment, but still said nothing.

Later, as the congregation was praying for Christ to dwell among them, the visitor stood, and his appearance began to change. Horrible scars became visible on his hands and on his sandaled feet. Someone from the congregation noticed him and called out, "What happened to you?"

The visitor replied, "I took your place!

~ GUARDIAN ANGEL ~

A guardian angel flew down from above,
To teach me a lesson about the powers of love.

She whispers to me, "Take a hold of my hand,
There are so many things I wish you to understand.

About the powers of love, and all it can do,
To someone who needs to share it with you.

A pat on the back, a kind smile on your face,
Can make someone's life, a much brighter place.

It doesn't take much, to show someone you care,
To give them the love, God gave you to share.

So please keep in mind, all the powers you possess,
To grace someone's life, when they're in distress.

You've been put on this earth to bestow the powers of love..."
And with those final words, she disappeared up above!

THANKS DAD

My two year old daughter, Christina, and her grandfather (my father) have a loving relationship. They talk in hushed whispers late at night, he reads her stories when she can't sleep, and he has, on occasion, placed toys and stuffed animals in her bed to comfort her when she's sick. He goes to her room late at night when she is frightened and sings to her so that my wife and I can sleep. She tells us about their games and fills her grandmother (my mother) in on the details of their talks.

The most wonderful and amazing thing about my father's love for his granddaughter is its ability to span time and heaven... You see, my father passed away six years before my wife and I even met.

Now, I know what you're thinking. To tell the truth, I've always thought stories like this where simply wishful thinking, if not outright fiction, but some of these occurrences just can't be explained. For example, I have sat and listened over the baby monitor to one sided conversations with my daughter mentioning names of people and places that she had never met before or seen. My two year old little girl knows facts about relatives that died when I was a child.

Christina has been awake in the mornings when I go to get her ready for daycare and has looked around and asked where her "Pappa Bill" was. She has hugged my mother and told her "I love you Nanna, and Pappa Bill loves you too."

She has told me that I have the same middle name as Pappa Bill. She has never been told what mine or my father's middle name was.

One of the first occurrences that really made me stop and think took place at two in the morning. I was awakened by the sound of Christina's wind up musical giraffe. Assuming that she had gotten over the railings of her crib, I walked into her room and found her with tears on her cheek, fast asleep, and her music box playing away on the floor in the middle of her room where before it had been sitting on a shelf of her bookcase.

As cynical as I would like to be about angels or whatever people may call this kind of thing, I've come to believe that the peaceful, calm feeling you get when you watch your child sleeping just could be God's reassurance that your angel is being watched over by one of his.

As these "visits," as Christina calls them, take place, I've come to believe that it just may be my father keeping an eye on her.

That would be his way, and I've learned to appreciate the peace that always seems to fill the room. Before I turn out her light I just smile and quietly whisper, "Thanks Dad" and go back to bed
